Auld stanes

It’s a slow process these days however you will have noticed new works are up!

I’ve been thinking about this key painting again. James Gilles’ Weird Wife o Lang Stane Lea, after a recent trip back to Aberdeenshire.

I visited the stone circle at Castle Fraser -know as Balgorkar- many moons ago now, using the moon to illuminate a slow exposure shoot, thinking about the now less recognised lunar theories on the stones.

The figure in Gilles’ work was also found wandering in my piece ‘Wood Temple’. This sacred site- known as Cothiemuir- is now ironically clear felled which is an interesting contrast to my formative years visiting the place, enjoying the enclosed enwooded ambiance which did seem mostly templey. A wander there from the shacky brig through the old estate was a good Aberdeenshire odyssey. Now that its opened up like the Old Keig circle their is a sense of an observatory. Sunset on the winter solstice is where my research and observations led me…but who knows. My three year old daughter thought the recumbent was made to be slid down….
